The Magic Bus needs YOU!

Ok folks, it still looks like a bus on acid (how *very* 1970's of me!), but it really does need your help - it is all fused to batting and ready for quilting. I started quilting some of the 'disconnect' lines - which I put there deliberately, thank you very much! - and decided that they need to be heavier, so they will be couched with black crochet cotton instead.

But I have no idea what else to do with it. I tried doing the pebbled thing on a sampler, and it just isn't working for me, so that option just isn't going to cut it. I am an advanced beginner FMQer, and I don't have much in the way of variegated threads, and none of them without blue in them! I like monofilament, as it goes with everything and is very forgiving.

So, PLEASE tell me what to do with this! Yes, it can wait a while, but I just assume actually finish something for once, so your ideas are most appreciated! Thanks in advance!

  1. Do you want it to not look like the magic bus on acid? I think that you should go with it. If it screams "Partridge Family" then channel then carry on, my dear!

If you wanted to, you could add fragments of some other environment, so it looked like the magic bus really was on a trip. My favorite of course, leaves or perhaps an urban look with some funky skyscraper elements. Of course, if the bus started travelling, you would have to do an entire series...by the ocean, in the city, visiting baseball stadiums, Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, camping, picking strawberries...it would never end. Of course, the bus would also have to do a Dead Head thing, just because.

  2. I apologize for all the "of courses", of course.

  3. Hi Susan, I love the bus, but being a novice fmq'er I have no input on how to quilt it...well, maybe something that enhances the "flow" of the wavy black lines.

  4. It is NOT supposed to be a bus! It will be vertical for the Straight and Narrow challenge, with the current left side as the bottom.

Sigh. I guess it sort of makes sense that my attempts to get pregnant should look like a bus - it has been quite a journey! I guess I should be glad it doesn't look like a roller coaster!!! lol

  5. I think it's going to look great vertical. It make me think a little of a Jane Sassaman floral design. Have you considered moving one of the those dark half circles that come over the edge to the other side? It might balance it differently and get away from the bus/wheel thing. Quilting? I'd do black thread and echo all those wonderful curvey shapes. Maybe even like Gerrie's recent Dot Calm series. Good luck!

  6. Oops. Sorry. I feel like I stuck both of my feet in my mouth. I'm very flexible.

Deborah is right, maybe edge the other side to get rid of the "wheels". Maybe add that shape elsewhere in your composition too. A good "rule of thumb" is to utilize your shapes in odd numbers.

Please post it vertically next time, so I don't make crazy comments. Thank you.
